06.01. The US State Department criticizes Greece and in particular Mikis Theodorakis for his declarations of November 2003. The composer reacts vigourously.

10 & 11..01.05: The program "Music and Songs of Mikis Theodorakis for the Theatre and the Cinema" has a great success.

03.02. In the National Centre of Literature in Mersch (Luxembourg), the exhibition initiated by Guy Wagner: "Mikis Theodorakis, a witness of our time" is inaugurated. It lasts until April 22 and has a very great success. As special events, there is a concert by Henning Schmidt - Volker Schlott - Jens Naumilkat; an evening of readings by Ina and Asteris Koutoulas, a recital by Maria Farantouri - Henning Schmiedt in CAPe and projections of movies with music of Theodorakis at the Cinémathèque of Luxembourg.

10.-14.02. Splendid concerts at Megaron in Athens show attractive aspects of the diversified creation of Theodorakis.

27.03. As a consequence to "a rather unprecedented attack by the European Commission" against Greece, Theodorakis withdraws his signature in favour of the European Constitution.

07.04. Grigoris Bithikotsis dies: "My sorrow is very great", Theodorakis declares.

07.05. Theodorakis is awarded the medal of the Presidential honour (Chile) for the centenary of Pablo Neruda.

10.05. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Victory over fascism, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the commemorative medal to Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Glezos and Nikos Terzoglou.

22.05. The "Songs of Passion and Love" are very successful and are given in many place in Greece.

23.06. New mourning for Theodorakis: Manolis Anagnostakis dies.

28.06. In Thessalonica begins a great series of concerts which are presented in Greece, in Crete and at Cyprus under the title "Theodorakis 80". Under the baton of Stavros Xarchakos, three great singers: Maria Farantouri, Manolis Mitsias and Petros Pandis present two cycles of songs: the world creation of the melodies of "Erimia'" (Solitude) and "Ballades" in homage to Anagnostakis.

19.07. Mikis Theodorakis is awarded the International St. Andrew the First Called Prize established by the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation.

29.07. Theodorakis’s 80th birthday, commemorated in the whole world, is particularly celebrated in Crete. Chania organizes three days of, meetings, joy and music (until 31.07.)

08.09. With great emotions, Theodorakis comes back to his birthplace, the island of Chios and sees for the first time the place of origin of his mother, Cesme (Turkey)

25.09. The Sorano Friendship and Peace Award is for Theodorakis. The composer cannot attend due to health problems but sentds a message to those present.

04.11. A moving ceremony was held in Aachen when Mikis Theodorakis was awarded the IMC-UNESCO Music Prize

19., 21 and 22.11. Three splendid concerts in Megaron, including two with extracts of the four mythological operas: Medea, Electra, Antigone and Lysistrata are given by the "Dresdner Symphoniker", under the precise and engaged direction of Eckard Stier.

23.11. Mikis Theodorakis receives the insignia of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit by the ambassador of Luxembourg in Greece, Mr. Conrad A. Bruch..

23.12.: Theodorakis uprises against the anticommunist memorandum of the Council of Europe.

10.-11.03. An international conference organized by University of Crete discusses the theories of Theodorakis on "Universal Harmony". Theodorakis can only move in a wheelchair.
