Mikis Theodorakis will be awarded doctor honoris causa from Macedonia University (Department of Music), Thessaloniki, on Thursday 17 February 2000.
This will be the culmination of a three-day programme honouring the composer.
Tuesday, 15 February
The pianist Tatiana Papageorgiou will talk about Theodorakis's works for piano and will play some of them ("Melos" etc.)
The composer Stavros Koujoumtzis will talk about Theodorakis's "non-symphonic" work.
A small orchestra, round 15 musicians, and a choir will perform Theodorakis's songs.
Wednesday, 16 February
Mr. Loukas Karytinos will talk about the symphonic work of Theodorakis and presents recorded pieces from Theodorakis's works.
Mrs. Drivala will talk about the role of "Antigone", and excerpts on video from the performance of "Antigone" in Megaron will be shown.
Mr. Kouroupos, the composer, will talk about "Epitafios".
"Epitafios" will be performed by Kouroupos, piano, and Spyros Sakkas, vocal.
