ON MY OPERA "MEDEA" PRESENTED IN A BALLET FORM

Renato Zanella

I have shared many precious memories with Peter Tiboris in connection with performances of my compositions. Most importantly, I am deeply appreciative for the concertante presentation of my opera “Electra” in New York’s Carnegie Hall, (summer of 2000).

All aspects of the performance from soloists, chorus, and Symphony Orchestra - masterfully conducted by Maestro Tiboris – were inspirational and musically rewarding. There are no words to express my gratitude for his artistic direction and leadership. My three-hour composition was well received by audience and performers alike.

It is now my pleasure to have him produce yet another of my operas, "Medea", in the theater Apollo of Syros for the Festival of the Aegean. The uniqueness of this performance is that it will be presented in dance form, choreographed by the talented Renato Zanella.

Judging from the excerpt presented to us last year, it will be an exceptional interpretation of this tragic quintessential work by Euripedes in dance and an exciting sight for both the eyes and ears.

For my part, I have tried to remain as true to the meaning and essence of the ancient tragedy. I am deeply moved by the fact that, for the first time, someone will render the tragic elements of my music through body movement and the contrasting elements of this work – all interpreted by the dancers and capably handled by the choreographic talents of Zanella. I am confident that the entire production will have high results.
