LUXEMBOURG HONOURS MIKIS THEODORAKIS

Homage to Theodorakis
On 29 July, Mikis Theodorakis, composer and emblematic "conscience" of the Greek people, had the opportunity to celebrate his 85th birthday. Of course, his health became frail, but his visionary mind and creativity are constantly alert.

So it is enjoyable to announce that Luxembourg also celebrates this anniversary with a great tribute concert at the Philharmonic Hall, on 28 October at 8 p.m.

The concert programme is particularly interesting because it consists of four components, which introduce the most important aspects of the creation by the hellenic composer:

I: Theodorakis, composer of popular music: Excerpts from "The deserters", "The Small Cyclades" and "Epiphany" (Sto Perighiali).

II: Theodorakis, composer of political music: "March of the Spirit," for soloists, chorus and symphony orchestra.

III: Theodorakis, composer of symphonic music: Symphony No. 3: 3rd mvt., 2nd version: "Byzantine hymn for Petros from the EPON", for mezzo-soprano, chorus and orchestra.

IV: Theodorakis, composer of universal music: Zorbas. Vocal and orchestral excerpts from the ballet in two acts. For mezzo-soprano, chorus, solo bouzouki, folk orchestra and symphony orchestra.

Contributors to this concert are:
- Irini Karaianni soloist, mezzo soprano, and Pieter Hendriks, bass-baritone;
- The legendary bouzouki player Lakis Karnezis
- The "Jannis Zotos band that toured for years with Theodorakis
- The Orchestra “Estro Armonico"
- The Municipal Choir "Uelzecht", Esch-sur-Alzette.
The whole project is under the direction of Jeff Sphere.

The concert is introduced at 7:15 p.m. at the Chamber Music Hall with an audio-visual show by Guy Wagner, friend and biographer of composer, under the title "Mikis Theodorakis, a witness of our time." (in French)

Tickets: 25 EUR. Reduced price (<27 years): 15 EUR.
