ZATOUNA: EVENTS DEDICATED TO POET YANNIS RITSOS

The Museum is hosted in the former school of Zatouna
The "Museum Mikis Theodorakis" in Zatouna (Arcadia) is organising 3-day events on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of poet Yannis Ritsos's birth, many of whose works have been set to music by the renowned composer Mikis Theodorakis.

The events will take place on 20, 21 and 22 August in the Museum's garden and will start at 8.30 pm.

Thursday, August 20, the event will include the presentation of rare audiovisual material on the poet, recitation of poems by the actor Dimitri Kataleifos on a choreography by Nana Kandyli. It is directed by Giannis Katomeris.

Before the event, the International Society of Arcadia will proclaim Mikis Theodorakisas an honorary member, "because he expresses the harmony and human values as a contemporary continuation of the 'Arcadian Ideal'".

Friday, August 21, the children’s choir of Dimitri Typaldos will accompany Antonis Kalogiannis in songs most of which were inspired by Mikis Theodorakis when he was exiled to Zatouna.

Saturday, August 22, during a unique evening in Greece, the composer Henning Schmiedt, orchestrator of many scores of Mikis Theodorakis, will accompany on the piano Maria Farantouri in songs of Yiannis Ritsos and other poets which Theodorakis set to music.
