On the occasion of Mikis Theodorakis 80th birthday, the composer's motherland, Chios island along with its neighbour Municipality of Cesme in Turkey (where Theodorakis' mother was born) launch a new festival which aspires to become not only a permanent institution, but also a landmark of affiliation between the two countries and the beginning for further co-operation not only in the cultural and academic fields, but in the economic and political ones as well.
So, from September 7 to 9, welcome "Theodorakeia - Culture on the Aegean shores" in Chios island and Tsesme.
The two Municipalities have already signed a memorandum of co-operation. A concert by Mikis Theodorakis and Zoulfou Livaneli, a lecture on the Greek composer and a documentary on his life as well as two more concerts, one by the Zoulfou Livaneli Orchestra and another by the Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra are realized within the framework of the festival. What's more, in Chios island, you may attend the inauguration of the new open - air venue named after Mikis Theodorakis.

Wednesday, September 7
Concert by Mikis Theodorakis and Zoulfou Livanelin in Cesme
Thursday, September 8
Salutation - lecture on Mikis Theodorakis work and documentary screening on his life at Homereion Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Chios.

Inauguration of the new open - air venue of the Chios Municipality named after Mikis Theodorakis

Concert by the "Zoulfou Livaneli" Orchestra in Chios island
