Manos Eleftheriou




Born in 1938, Manos Eleftheriou is a highly sensitive and multitalented creative artist.

He is one of the finest poets of his generation. Among his best know books you find: Music Lessons, Boundaries of a Myth, The Secret Well, Opera Recollections.

His lyrics which have been set to music by some of Greece's greatest composers, especially by Mikis Theodorakis: POPULAR SONGS (TA LAIKA), some of the SONGS OF STRUGGLE, THE BAZAAR OF THE MURDERER (ARCADIA II), TO THE MOTHER AND THE CHILD (ARCADIA III), NIGHT OF DEATH, Parts of POLITIA C, & D, ARE WE LIVING IN ANOTHER COUNTRY?

Some oft the best known songs: Saint February, Liturgy, The Train Leaves at Eight, Three Rivers, O Poet, Men in Black came, The Marquee, The Angels' Bouzouki.

Manos Eleftheriou is also a fine novelist - The Touch of Time - a writer of children's books - Fairy Tales for the Emperor - and an editor, especially of books and albums on his home-island, Syros: Memento of Syros, The Ermoupolis Theatre, and recently: The Age of Chrysanthemums, a huge bestseller.
