The contemporary Greek folk-song of the mid-century had one great defect: It was unbalanced. The more passionate and profound was the music, the more banal the text.
My first efforts were directed therefore towards righting this imbalance. Poetry was without any doubt the most highly developed of Greek arts; what, therefore, could be simpler than the association of these two great achievements of Greek modernity: poetry and popular music.
