10.10.03: Anthem for the Greek national football team

Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier match between Greece and Northern Ireland will be of special interest with reasons not being just the match itself.

Renowned composer Mikis Theodorakis has created an anthem especially for the Greek national football team, to be heard for the first time before the match.

Greece with victory against Northern Ireland will guarantee automatic qualification for next summer's finals in Portugal.

Renowned composer Mikis Theodorakis has written an anthem especially for the national soccer team, to be heard for the first time on Saturday at the Leoforos Alexandras stadium in Athens, where Greece meets Northern Ireland in its concluding Euro 2004 qualifier. Placed on top of Group 6, a point ahead of Spain, Greece would guarantee its berth for next year’s finals if it matches or betters Spain’s result in Armenia. Theodorakis and other dignitaries will be in the stands.
